Your body has an amazing capacity for repair and renewal. However, to begin the process of restoring your good health, it is imperative that you fully appreciate that your physical body and your mind, are two parts of one whole entity: You.
Only when your body and mind are working harmoniously together, can you achieve optimum health and well-being.
So, in order to reverse your biological age and therefore, grow younger, you must create both a healthier mind and body.
How do you achieve this? Eliminate toxins from your life by choosing regenerative life practices over those which lead to accelerated old age and degenerative disease.
The very moment you begin this life-affirming journey, your body will respond positively by repairing and renewing itself.
Step One: Change Your Perception about Aging
We are all conditioned to accept that we deteriorate physically and mentally as we age and that normally, the rate at which this happens is out of our control. After-all, DNA is everything isn't it? This is not always so.
According to the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, hereditary factors in physical and mental degeneration, accounts for less than 20% of illness and disease. That means a whopping 80% of illness is caused by outside influences such as lifestyle choices, and exposure to environmental toxins.
Isn't it liberating to know that the small everyday decisions you make regarding the foods you eat and your exercise and recreation preferences, essentially determines the rate at which you will age, and the effectiveness of your immune system in protecting you against illness and degenerative disease.
The instant you change your mindset about what it means to age, is like taking a quantum leap into another world brimming with possibilities. No longer do you have to feel like a slave to the "Fate God!"
Step Two: Breathe
As humans, the most fundamental requirement for physical life is oxygen. Deprived of it, even for only a few moments, we cease to exist.
The fact is by the time we are twelve years old, most of us cannot perform even this most elementary prerequisite for a healthy life properly!
Breathing to increase longevity entails filling our lungs with fresh, clean air and expelling all of that breath back into the atmosphere, releasing toxins from our bodies as we do so.
The many benefits of improving breathing technique include: increased energy levels, enhanced absorption of nutrients in food, accelerated healing, improved circulation, lowered
blood pressure, less stress and anxiety. Correct breathing also cleans your body of harmful toxins, and helps to reverse premature aging.
The following easy breathing technique can be performed anywhere and at any time of the day.
Make sure you are comfortable. It doesn't matter if you are sitting or standing.
1. Take a deep breath through your nose, filling your abdomen so it expands out fully.
2. Continue inhaling so that your ribcage is also filled.
3. Inhale even further to expand your whole chest so that you feel the pressure of air at the base of your throat.
4. Then reverse the process. Exhale first from the chest, then from the ribcage, followed by the abdomen. Tighten your abdomen muscles ensuring all of the air is expelled.
Repeat the exercise for up to fifteen minutes.
Step Three: Drink Pure Water
Without water, at most, we can survive two or three days. In harsh climatic conditions this survival time is greatly reduced.
Being fully hydrated means drinking enough water to ensure our bodies continually constitute around 70% water.
However, to unlock water's regenerative powers, drink only water free from harmful chemicals. Not only does this include pesticides and herbicides that can enter our water-ways, but also chlorine and fluoride which are added to many cities' reservoirs.
Drinking pure water is instrumental in the efficient functioning of your kidneys and liver, which both play a major role in expelling toxins from your body. Adequate water consumption also encourages efficient food metabolization, sparks up your circulation and energy levels, and adds clarity and extra perception to your life. As well, consuming enough pure water every day, gives you clear, bright, elastic, and youthful looking skin.
Step Four: Eat Right to Live a Long and Healthy, Life
Some foods accelerate aging and decay, others revitalize, heal, and renew. The right food is your medicine. Quite simply: You really are what you eat.
Integrate the following guidelines with your daily life and you will be amazed at how the years will seemingly melt from your body.
1. Always Eat Whole Foods
You can recognize a whole food because it has not been broken down or processed. Unlike processed foods in which much of the nutritional value has been destroyed, whole foods are full of protective and healing vitamins, minerals, and trace elements.
Whole foods are anti-aging, and their therapeutic properties, are instrumental in reversing damage caused by unhealthy eating habits.
Fill your cupboards with
whole grains, cereals, breads, and pasta, brown or basmati rice, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables, nuts, beans, and legumes.
2. Eat Colorful Foods
In terms of food, when you think "color", think: fruit and vegetables.
Eating a colorful array of fresh fruit and vegetables every day, is your body's primary source of restorative vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals, which are essential for detoxification, healing and anti-aging. Basically, the more colorful your diet, the healthier you are.
Eat three to five servings of fresh fruit a day, and at least five servings of vegetables. Equate a serving of each to a good handful.
3. Choose Healthy Protein
Protein is strength. Protein is stamina. Protein is life. The job of protein is to build and repair muscle, organs, and cells. Additionally, it assists to form enzymes, some hormones and antibodies.
Favor fish and vegetable sources of protein over animal sources because they are low in unhealthy, saturated fat.
Vegetable proteins such as tofu, beans, nuts, and seeds are also rich in regenerative and anti-aging phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients.
4. Eat Healthy Fats
Consuming fats from fish, fruit, vegetables, and nuts are imperative to your good health and anti-aging. Most of the fat from these sources is called "unsaturated" fat.
In particular, the consumption of Omega 3 fatty acids has been shown to: boost your brain power, protect against cardiovascular disease, improve circulation, help you to metabolize food efficiently and thus assist in weight loss, and is instrumental in helping your body to absorb vitamins and minerals from other foods.
Omega 3 fatty acids are found mainly in fatty fish such as: tuna, salmon, and mackerel, and whole soy bean foods such as tofu and tempeh. In smaller quantities it is found in nuts, seeds, and green leafy vegetables.
Cut down your supply of animal sources of fats, which are all known as "saturated" fats. Saturated fat is indisputably linked to illness, disease and accelerated aging.
To benefit from the protective and anti-aging properties of unsaturated fat, it should make up 15/20% of your diet.
5. Choose Organic Food
Organic food is grown and packaged free from the following toxins: herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, synthetic fertilizers, antibiotics, and added hormones!
Just remember, if the food you are eating is regenerative, it is healing and renewing your body. However, if it is degenerative, it will add years to your biological age and make yoususceptible to illness and disease.
Step Five: Exercise
Regular exercise reverses all of the signs of aging. Conversely, not exercising, rapidly pushes your body towards old age and disease.
To gain the most benefit from exercise and therefore reverse your biological age, pay attention to stretching, strengthening, and cardiovascular conditioning.
Improving your flexibility increases your body's overall comfort level and greatly reduces your chances of injury.
Strength training not only enhances your energy and vitality, it speeds up your metabolism, improves your posture and helps relieve back pain.
Cardiovascular fitness literally breathes life into your body by increasing the flow of oxygen into your lungs, significantly diminishing your risk of many life-threatening diseases particularly cardiovascular disease.
As well as positively influencing your physical health, regular exercise is wonderful for your mind. It reduces anxiety, depression, and anger, and improves your self-esteem.
Reversing your biological age through regular exercise is as simple as alternating an aerobic activity such as: brisk walking, jogging, or swimming for thirty minutes three times a week with thirty minutes of strength training three times a week.
You could also join a Yoga or Thai Chi class to combine all three life enhancing exercise essentials into one simple program.
You are never too old or too unfit to begin regularly exercising. However, if your health is compromised, begin your program under the guidance of a health professional.
Step Six: Relax
Rest and recreation go hand-in-hand. When you truly relax, your body literally recreates itself. Deep rest promotes rejuvenation of your body and your mind. Conversely, an agitated mind advances decay and aging.
The hectic pace of life can make it difficult to achieve restful relaxation. However, the practice of meditation is an effective solution.
Applying the following simple meditation technique for fifteen minutes a day will help you to achieve a truly restful state. Deepak Chopra calls it the "So Hum" Meditation Technique.
1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
2. Breath deeply and slowly through your nose while thinking "So."
3. Then exhale slowly through your nose thinking "Hum."
4. Continue this process for fifteen minutes.
5. Slowly become aware of your surroundings again, open your eyes and stretch.
Step Seven: Sleep Soundly
Unfortunately, sleep deprivation is the scourge of modern day life. Inadequate sleep causes fatigue, lack of concentration, depression, slows your metabolism, and unbalances your hormonal system. As well, it weakens your immune system leaving you vulnerable to sickness and disease.
Six to eight hours of quality sleep every night provides the perfect platform for your body to reenergize, heal and renew itself.
Combining healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and a positive mind set are all instrumental in helping you to achieve a restful and rejuvenating sleep.
However, if you still have difficulty achieving a restful sleep, practicing the afore-mentioned meditation before bedtime will help significantly.
It takes commitment, effort, and time to create a younger body. However, isn't it wonderful knowing that, for the most part, we have the power to achieve just this!
